GUIDE · AI AUTHORITY

How AI authorization and approvals should work inside a business.

The fact that an AI system can perform an action does not mean it should be allowed to perform that action automatically. A useful operating model separates technical capability from delegated authority and makes approval boundaries part of normal work.

CAPABILITY VS AUTHORITY

Treat what the system can do and what it may do as separate questions.

An intelligent system may be able to draft a message, change a schedule, create work, update a customer record or trigger an external action. Authorization determines which of those actions may happen automatically in a specific context.

APPROVAL BOUNDARIES

Use approvals where judgment, policy or risk still belongs to a person.

A workflow can allow Voyager to gather context, prepare a recommendation and assemble the proposed action, then stop at a request for approval. That preserves the value of machine preparation without pretending every decision should be autonomous.

DELEGATED ACTION

Grant autonomy deliberately and at the level of the work.

Low-risk, well-understood responsibilities can be delegated more broadly while sensitive or unusual actions remain constrained. The useful model is graduated authority rather than one global autonomy switch.

DIRECT ANSWERS

The practical questions behind the concept.

What is AI authorization?

AI authorization is the set of permissions and operating boundaries that determines which actions an AI system may take, under what conditions and on whose authority. It is separate from the system's technical capability.

When should AI require human approval?

Human approval is appropriate when an action carries material risk, creates an external commitment, is unusual, falls outside delegated policy or simply reflects a preference that a person retain the decision.

Does approval prevent useful automation?

No. The system can still gather context, reason about the situation, prepare the work and route the decision. Approval becomes a control point inside the workflow rather than a return to manual administration.

Voyager is easier to evaluate as an operating loop than as another software category. Start with one responsibility and see how context, authority and follow-through connect.

FIRST OPERATING COMPANIES

Voyager is being put to work first inside companies we directly operate, so real workflows shape the product before broader rollout.
