01SALES
Sales works an active commercial path.
Leads, qualification, opportunities, proposals, negotiation and closing turn demand into customer commitments. Business development can feed that path, but is not limited to it.
GUIDE · BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
Sales and business development overlap, and companies use the labels differently. Salesforce describes business development as longer-term work to increase company value through markets, relationships and customers, while sales works leads through a pipeline to close business. Voyager uses an intentionally broader strategic model: business development includes any evidence-backed move that can materially change what the business offers, where it operates or how it creates value.

02BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
A new market, service, location, partnership, acquisition, pricing model, supplier strategy, capital investment or process redesign may need research and approval before there is anything for sales to sell.
03OPERATING SIGNALS
Repeated customer requests, capacity constraints, margin changes, supplier problems, service patterns, geographic demand or unused assets can all suggest a candidate move. The signal is not the decision; it is a reason to investigate.
04EVIDENCE
The next step is to gather customer and market evidence, economics, capacity, staffing, supplier, facility, legal and timing consequences, then compare viable alternatives rather than promoting the first idea.
05HANDOFF
Once approved, the initiative can become a project, campaign, sales motion, hiring plan, purchase, facility plan or other execution path with the original evidence and assumptions still attached.
06LEARNING
A business-development loop should retain why the move was approved and compare actual demand, economics and operating impact with those assumptions so the next decision starts from evidence.
